Printer kicks out job when 1/2 done

I am using Windows 2000 Professional to run an HP deskjet
3820 printer. When the printer gets half way through
printing a page (sometimes further, sometimes less) it
just stops and kicks the page out. I went through all the
steps recommended by HPs help line and none of them
worked. HP said it was probably my Microsoft Office XP.
Can anyone tell me what is likely to be causing this
problem? Is it MS or is it HP?

Make sure your not short on memory or disk space, some of the ink jet
printer drivers can produce huge spool files which may cause a problem if
your short on free disk space.

1/2 page or so may match the size of the printer's data buffer. If so the
problem is usually one of handshaking. The most common cure is to set the
parallel port mode to SPP in BIOS, and allow windows to use the correct
driver for the SPP mode. It is also possible that the printer cable has
problems of one kind or another. (anything from poorly mated connectors to a
bad wire.) SPP mode may have a different designation in some BIOS versions.
The current common BIOS parallel port mode names are SPP, ECP, EPP, and
ECP+EPP. SPP can be the most reliable for some printers, cables, and
parallel port hardware. There may be a small decrease in printing speed when
SPP is used, or it's even possible that the printing speed will improve.
