Printer Installation Error 0x000006be

Connecting Vista machines to our current Window 2003 R2 print server has been
a hit and miss experience. Connect and install fine, others throw a
0x000006be error when attempting to install the driver. One is especially
pernicious. Color LJ 4650, won't install even though there is a Vista driver
in the local store as well as on the Print Server. I thought Point and Print
was supposed to sort this out?

Sandy, just install one of these drivers from HP to pickup the hpbmini.dll
file that understands the Vista OS version. You do not have to have these
printers and you can delete the driver after the install and still retain
the updated file.

Alan,

I just got confirmed info from HP team, the LaserJet 4345 MFP (Version
60.053.762.32) and Color LaserJet 9500 MFP (version 60.52.267.21) are
drivers having the latest hpbmini.dll in their package on hp.com.

Thanks.

Wenzhong

Thanks much. I added the 4345 and my hpbmini.dll is now 18!

:

I thinks you need a newer driver for the printer from the vendor.
In particular for your hp printer you need a newer version of
hpbmini.dll

The spooler service is failing.

1726 RPC_S_CALL_FAILED

this could be due to a faulting or corrupted driver.

What drivers are installed on the machine?

Printers Folder , File, Server Properties, Drivers.

Most likely the spooler service on the client is terminating due to the
print driver from the server

winerror 0x000006be
1726 RPC_S_CALL_FAILED <--> 0xc002001b RPC_NT_CALL_FAILED

What OS is the machine sharing the printer?

You can create local printer that copies the files to the share for the
printer rather than create an RPC connection to queue.

Create local printer

Create a Local Port in the format \\remotemachine\printsharename

Add the ImageClass driver (pickup the Vista driver for your OS architecture
from Canon)

Next Next Finish

this will basically just copy the

I'll assume the 32 bit OS

What is the version number of the print driver

Printmanagement.msc

Server
Drivers

the version number is listed here.

this is the error

C:\>winerror 0x000006be
1726 RPC_S_CALL_FAILED <--> 0xc002001b RPC_NT_CALL_FAILED

this can occur if the spooler service terminates on the client or the
spooler service is not running on the print server.

Since the print server is not Windows, there is no spooler service, however
the router may be emulating rpc calls which have changed since XP. Verify
the print spooler service is running on the client when you receive this
error.

If it is, it sounds like the spooler is attempting to create a true rpc
connection rather than an HTTP connection to the device. Does the router
support any other print services? Raw 9100 or LPD perhaps?
