Hi all i have recently instaleld a new cartridge in my lexmark printer, and
now i restarted and got the famous subspooler app error. I tried to do the
soultion form knowledgebase 324757 Got to the start spooler and had an error,
then tried to do 919750 to start it, but realised my laptop came with no
installation cds so i cannot replace the spoolsv as listed. Whenver i try to
add printer it comes up saying spool not running.
If i go to manage on my computer and click start on print spooler it says it
starts but i guess it doesnt?!
Any help VERY gratefully recieved.
Thanks in advance,

In Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, do you see Print Spooler
listed?

If not, then I'm afraid a reinstall of XP is 100% essential.... the only
alternative to that I can think of is using System Restore to go back to
when everything was OK with the printer (ie before the ink ran out).

Generally, to start the Spooler, see:
http://www.coribright.com/windows/Article_Nine.htm

Thanks for your quick reply! I tried to link you suggested and it said it
started but then i tried to add printer and same message plus spool sub app
error now!

It is listed in the services yes but doesnt seem to start or stay working.

This is frustrating! I guess i could try system restore point if not ill
have to find an xp CD from somewhere!

Thanks again for your quick help!

Before you panic and do an unnecessary reinstall of Windows, did you
follow the rest of the instructions in KB 324757? It sounds as if you
got to step 6 under "Turn off Lexmark print service." Because that
plainly did not resolve your issue, did you go to the "Start computer in
safe mode" section and follow the remaining steps?

Alternatively, see
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm especially the
link concerning Lexmark printer drivers.

Note that if you follow either the steps in KB 324757 or those at Bruce
Sanderson's site, you'll have to reinstall your Lexmark printer driver.

Finally, if you really have to reinstall spoolsv.exe, you may not need a
Windows CD. If you have a c:\i386 folder (original installation) or
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 (updated files), you will probably find
spoolsv.ex_ or spoolsv.exe there. Use the one from ServicePackFiles if
you have that folder.

Thanks LEM, i have also now tried this other site and just cannot get
anywhere, i followd the last few steps secific to lexmark and it did say the
spool had started but when i try to add printer i just get the cannot add due
to print spooler not being started error.
Silly question but should i do all the steps in one row, ie from start of
trying to stop lxbe to finish without restarting comp?
Thanks for help
