Hi All,
Need advice on how to clean Epson
C40SX printer heads. The cartridges are full but prints are very poor
quality. I've ran the Epson software utility but no colours appear on the
print-out, only black.
Using the nozzle cleaner utilty is of no use either .
Can I manually clean the nozzles and how do I do it or does it require a
proprietary product?
Many Thanks.

I stopped buying Epson long ago for this specific reason. The print head is
built into the printer. Basically, it's not economically feasible to try to
repair your printer . . . you need a new one. That is, if Epson is still
building them as poorly as they used to. Epson has always been very
consumer unfriendly. Their latest trick is to produce ink cartridges that
die when they run out of ink (won't work if you refill them). -Dave

not true. get yourself some windex or other ammonia-based window cleaner.
spray a little on some a4 and print all over it. repeat until clean. it's
an annoying feature of a lot of epson photoprinters, but not very hard to
get rid of.

True you CAN clean them, it's just a major pain and requires some
skill.
To really get Epson heads clean can require a special cleaning
cartridge loaded with a strong solvent.
Epson repair shops use sulfynol in a blank cartridge.
Denatured alchohol, magnetic head cleaner etc... works well too.
Sometimes the head assem. will have to be removed, not for the
untrained. then a bath in distilled water and an ultrasonic cleaner
usually gets the dirt out.
