I am working on a computer running XP Pro SP2. Every time it boots it tries
to load a driver for an unidentified printer that is not plugged into it. the
Wizard seems to operate normally but of course cannot find the device driver
for the non-existent printer.
I have tried installing other printers and they detect, load drivers,
install and operate normally on the same USB port.
Microsoft support suggested looking in Msconfig, but I cannot find anything
remotely like what is going on.
Task Manager reports that rundll32.exe is running and associated with the
hardware installation wizard which I assume to be normal.
any help appreciated
