Several weeks ago I found that my printer (EPSON) would
not print. I tried a number of solutions, including
removing and reloading the Printer Driver and associated
software packages. I spent over one hour with the Epson
tech support staff. They ultimately reasoned that I
probably have a virus affecting the Printer Software.
Their suggestion is that I do a System Restore back to a
date when the printer was working. I have been all over
the net, the Microsoft Support Site and my HELP tabs
without success.

Can anyone advise me the steps on how to do a System
Restore back to a certain date. Step-by-step apprach
would be very helpful. If you know of other solutions, I
am open.

Normally, the XP System Restore feature will take "checkpoints" about once
per day if XP is running every day; you can also ask the system to take a
check point at any time. How many check points are retained depends on how
much disk space the System Restore feature has been configured to use.

To restore to a previous check point:
1. click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore
2. select the "Restore my computer to an earlier time"; click Next
3. on the calendar presented, days for which there are at least one check
point will show "depressed" with white numbers on a blue background. When
you hover the mouse over a day for which there is at least one checkpoint,
the mouse pointer changes to a hand with the index finger extended; for days
without checkpoints, the mouse point remains the default pointer. Find the
day that has a check point you want to restore to and click on it.
4. if there is more than one check point in the right pane, select the one
you want
5. click Next
6. you'll get a page with some red lettering, warnings etc. If you want to
proceed, click Next; otherwise click Cancel or Back.

If you have recently installed a significant upgrade (e.g. XP Service Pack
2), you may find that there are no previous check points, at least not as
far into the past as you want.

If you want to see or change the System Restore settings (e.g. how much disk
space that check points can occupy, at step 2, click the "System Restore
Settings" hyperlink in the left pane instead of Next.

You may have a problem with a printer driver that can be fixed some other
way. See for example
