printer disappeared

Hi

I was printing a map from the net, it came out ok. I tried printing another
one, and a message said that there is no printer installed (or something to
that effect). So, I went to Start | Settings | Printers, and all printers
have misteriously disappeared. There was only the Add Printer icon. I
restarted the PC, and all printers came back to normal.

What could have happened ?

Likely the print spooler blew a gasket. Restarting the PC restarted the
spooler. If it happens again, you can go to command prompt and issue
net start spooler
you could also issue that command from Start, Run, but you would not see
any response messages.
