Inverted Prophecy

Gentlemen,

I have a problem some of you might have faced before. I'm having
difficulties with two HP 4200n printers. One particular program has
problems printing to them, the other applications (such as MS Office,
Acrobat etc) work OK. Printing to other HP 4200n printers poses no
problems. The 'funny' thing is that the two printers can't be reached
using either HP Web JetAdmin 7.2, nor JetAdmin 3.40.00, which is a
little too coincidental if you ask me. Pinging and tracerouting the
machines, using the IP address as well as the NetBIOS name, provides
me with an answer and the path to the machines, so network
connectivity doesn't appear to be the problem. Telnetting the
machines, as well as accessing them using the builtin web server also
works fine. All firmware versions on the HP 4200n printers are the
same (R.24.06).

Can anyone tell me what can possibly be the problem? All printers are
connected to a dedicated HP 4200 Appliance Printer Server. Browsing
the Internet revealed no clues. Maybe it's time to contact HP?

Any input is highly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Casper.

What kind of error do you see?

Okay. But are you printing to the printer via IP on port 9100 (the
standard HP method), or through the NetBIOS/Windows networking stuff?

I had a look at the HP web page on that device, and it looks like it
uses with the Windows networking method.

So my suggestion would be to modify the driver setup on one of the
problem computers. Change the port to "standard network printer" (can't
recall exactly what they call it right now, don't have any Windows
machines here) and specify the printer's IP address. Try printing
again. If it works, you know the problem lies in the "Appliance".
