printer and scanner not powering on

I was about to install new ink for my Epson Photo R800 printer when I
pushed the power button and it never came on. I also plugged it into
another outlet to see if it would power on, but nothing happened.
Then> something made me turn on my Canon scanner and no power for it
as
well...I even tried plugging it in another outlet and nothing. I
contacted both companies by email a few mins. ago. Can anyone shed
some light on this? no breakers are flipped in the house and
everything else, modem, and the power strips plugged into the outlets
work fine...I noticed the sponge thing at the bottom of the printer is
kind of saturated..would that have something to do with it not
powering on to prevent further problems or something? I hope someone
can help. Also, the printer wasn't in use when this happened.
 
Most Canon scanners are not powered from A/C but take a D/C line through the
USB cable.

Take the Epson to another power outlet... in another room and see if it
powers on there. It does not have to have a connection to a PC.

If it doesn't power on, I hope you have a warranty.

Take a working desktop lamp and connect it to the power socket where the
printer was connected. Does it work? If not, call an electrician,
something seems amiss with your power circuitry and if you're not sure about
wiring and home electrics, don't take a chance on killing yourself.
