Having downloaded Windows XP SP2 for XP Home Edition I can
no longer print. I am getting an error message that
says "the print spooler service is not working."
Everything was fine before the download and installation.
At bootup now the scrolling blocks are blue not green and
they spool for about 20 times, before it was about 3 or 4
times, does this indicate any problems.

Microsoft considered this problem an XP SP2 issue and
therefore a free support call. If it ever gets fixed I
will post the solution.

Did you try actually starting the print spooler.... from the Command Prompt,
type

net start spooler

(and hit enter)

this same thing happened to me. i had a printer one day then all of a sudden
it was gone. i have uninstalled all HP printer applications. In the admin
tools the is no printer spooler. Any ideas on what to do?

Have you already solve this problem?
I´ve upgraded to SP2 and have the same problem.
Please tell me if you have the answer.
|Thanks,
Gastón

I just did this and my (well, one of them) is working now. Thank You. I
installed SP2 some time back and no trouble until today. It also kept saying
"RPC server unavailable". Will try the other printer when I reboot.
Thank You again,

If no joy, try starting the RPC service first and then the spooler
service.

From the command prompt (cmd)
net start RPCSS
net start spooler

Press enter after each line. If the RPC service is already started, you
will get a return message.

Let us know.
