Hello,

I've been having a problem with the Print Spooler shutting
down unexpectantly throughout the day. I've been
restarting it through Services. I'm new to the server
world and frantically trying to fix the problem. As for
the Event Id... the error that was generated in my Event
Viewer had an Id number of 54? The end user was receiving
an error messages stating "Before you can perform printer-
related tasks such as page setup or printing a document,
you need to install a printer." Any suggestions or help
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Vanessa

Seen this, after migrating printers to 2000 Server in a
30-user LAN.

I set the server's spooler service to restart after the
first two failures. At the user level, I wait for a user
to complain, and then set their local spooler service (I
don't know why this matters) to do the same.

This has hugely diminished, but not 100% resolved, the issue.

Hope this helps.

Hi! We have had the same problem on som of our print
servers. The solution was to look for printers with a lot
of prints in que (normaly they are offline). Deleting
these prints helped. Before we found this out we had to
restart the server a lot because the spooler took all the
cpu.
