Hi.
The user's printers keep disappearing due to the Print
Spooler Service stopping. I keep resetting it to START but
it keeps happening again every so often(Microsoft Article
811348).
Is there something else I can do so when I set the Print
Spooler Service to START it will hold and won't stop again?
This is on a win2000 pro.

Thanks.

Hi Fran,
a quick fix is to go into the Services area of
Administrative tools, then right-click the Print Spooler
service. On the Recovery tab you can set the service to
restart after the first occurrance of a stoppage. You will
need to set the second and subsequent stops as well. You
can also reset the time from 1 minute to 0 (zero) and the
service will restart immediately. This does not solve the
issue of the service stopping it just keeps you up and
running until you resolve the issue.
Hope this helps.

I have no idea if this will help. It is a good operational choice.
I created a separate disk partition and a folder in it called spool.
Then, in the Printers main screen go to file, server properties and
advanced and set the spool folder to this new partition. This reduces
the possibility of conflicts on the system partition. Maybe that will
help stabilize things.
You can also install another drive in the machine (2GB is about all
thats needed)
