I have a print spooler problem. The other day I ran microsoft update on my
wife's compaq running XP Home, this installed a bunch of updates including
SP2. After the update the computer is unable to print. The printer is a HP
DJ9650 connected to a USB port. The printer and cable have been tested on
another computer and function correctly.

Symptoms:
All documents show up in the print spooler, and indicate "printing" but do
not go anywhere.

The print spooler is running

The computer correctly recognizes when the printer is connected or turned
off by indicating "off-line" or "ready", plug and play recognizes and
installs the printer correctly when it is plugged in after deleting the
printer.

The top document in the spooler cannot be deleted, except by net stop
spooler/deleting the file from \system\spooler\ and restarting the spooler.

I have tried without success:
Removing the printer and re-installing it.
Deleting the printer driver and re-installing it.
Returning to an OS Restore point prior to the updates.

Any ideas?
