Ok it seems that i am among quite a few people that are
having this print spooler issue. I am running a windows
2000 server with SP3 installed. Sporadically the print
spooler terminates, and the service needs to be
restarted. This will happen quite a few times, and then
not for some time. I found this article which explains
that this issue is fixed with SP4.
But, I have also seen postings that have said this issue
is not corrected with SP4 and that it still occurs with
SP4. This server is doing triple duty as the print,
file, and backup server, so i don't feel like just
applying the SP and hoping for the best. I would
appreciate any input.

This issue has something to do with client jobs having older print drivers.

Summary: A GDI bug that was causing the Spooler service to terminate. This
issue was the # 1 volume issue by far, in fact had more volume then all
other areas combined

This problem may occur if a print job that contains an older version 3
DEVMODE structure that does not contain ICM information is submitted. When
the spooler tries to reference this data, it causes the access violation.

Thank you for the relpy alan. I have checked out the
article, and it still brings me back to updating the
service pack on my print server. Is there a way to just
update devmode?
