Print Spooler Continuously needing restart

Since converting to XP, we've seen many odd printing
problems, that require the spooler to be reset, which then
makes all the problems subside for a time. We've applied
the HP beta drivers that took care of some of the
problems, but continue to see garbled fonts, fonts that
print to enormous sizes, or jobs that just never print.
I've found a few articles in MS Technet that state there
is a hot fix after SP3 that is supposed to deal with these
problems, but we've already moved to SP4. Any help would
be appreciated.

You don't say what printer models you have, which might be useful.

Generally speaking, if you have the Windows 2000/XP printer drivers (the
Version 3 driver model ones) on your Windows 2000 print server, there are
few problems. However, if you have the Windows NT 4/Windows 2000 printer
drivers (the Version 2 driver model ones) on your Windows 2000 print server,
this can be a problem unless you install the XP drivers as "Additional
Drivers".

If you do not have any Windows NT 4 clients, I suggest cleaning out all the
drivers on your print server and clients (see
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm), then installing
the Windows 2000/XP (Version 3) printer drivers on your Windows 2000 print
server. For most HP LaserJet type printers, the Windows 2000 drivers
currently on the HP web site are the Version 3 drivers.
