I need to learn how to set up a "print sharing" using a
wireless notebook and a wired desktop. Both computers
have Windows XP Pro and a Linksys router is functioning.
The LexmarkX 5150 driver software has been installed on
both machines. I have read the "How to share a printer
in a Windows environment." I seem to be having trouble
with naming the port: \\server\printer Thank you

1. Is the printer connected (parallel, USB) to one of the computers, or is
it connected to a "printserver" box which is plugged into the router?

2. Assuming it is connected (parallel, USB) to the "desktop" computer:
2.a. can the laptop connect to folder shares on the desktop?
assuming Yes
on the laptop:
2.b. start the Add Printer Wizard; click Next
2.c. select the "A network printer,..." radio button; click Next
2.d. select "Connect to this printer..." radio button
2.e. key \\computername\printersharename
where computername is the name of the desktop computer (Start, right
click My Computer, select Properties select the Computer Name tab)
where printersharename is the name you supplied on the desktop computer
in the printer's Properties, Sharing tab
2.f. click Next
follow the rest of the prompts.

With "Network Printers", the driver will be automatically downloaded from
the computer that has the printer connected.
