I have a question if someone can answer for me I will be
very thankful. When you setup a print server I know that
you have to install the software on the server and if
it's a network printer I know that you have congifure the
printer with a I.P. address. My qusetion after you do all
that how do you install printer on a pc when the printer
is on the print server. Do you have to map it.

Derick

Thank you

Derick:

You did not mention how many PC and Print drives are in your network.

No mapping necessary.

I would prefer to install the necessary drivers from the print server to my
PC.
The print server downloads the necessary printer drivers to the PC

Share the printer
Just attach to your print server (\\<PrintServerName\PrinterShareName>) OR
http://<IP Address of Print Server> OR http://<PrintServerNamr>/printers
Now right click & click on CONNECT
Let me know how things work out

Thanks,
John.

If you are just getting started with Windows (network) printing, you might
find it useful to get the terminology straight. See the Glossary at
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/Glossary.htm, particularly the entries for:

port
printer
print device
print server

For example, a print device with a LAN adapter (e.g. HP printer with
internal or external JetDirect) is not a "Network Printer" in Windows
terminology. Rather, it would be a Local Printer on a Standard TCP/IP Port
configured with the IP addres of the print device's LAN adapter.

To add a true Network Printer to a client computer, you can use the Add
Printer Wizard to create the "connection".

See also the page at http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/NetPrinterAllUsers.htm
for how to add a Network Printer for all users on a client computer.

When adding a Network Printer on a client, one would normally use the Print
Server computer's name, not its IP Address.
