I working in an envirment with serveral hundred print queues. I connect to a
print server running windows 2000 from my xp desktop. When I view the print
queues from my desktop, they are constanly refreshing every 5 seconds or so,
It drives me crazy. It doesn't happend when i'm on the server nor did it
happen when I was running 2000 profesional. Is there any way to cahnge the
refresh rate? Please help!!!!

The client is in a polling mode for print job notifications. The spooler
defaults to polling when the Windows Firewall is enabled but the File and
Print sharing ports are not enabled (the default when not sharing files or a
printer on a client). Enable this exception and disconnect from the
server. I'll typically stop the spooler and restart on the client before
opening the remote machine.

Almost the same issue

I am running Windows XP Pro version 2002 with Service pack 2
The computer is a Del computer with Intel Pentium(R) D CPU 3.40GHz, 3.39 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM

I have a user that sees MULTIPLE printers and faxes (about 117) on a network system. The screen keeps refreshing back to the top of the page and they have to scroll all the way back down to the printer that they were looking at and it refreshes back to the top again and so on...
Now, I have spoken to several people here and they said that the previous tech had been working on this issue for over 2 weeks before finding an answer. The answer that I was told is that there is a conflict with a Microsoft product but they could not tell me what it was that was the conflict. This "product" is also no longer supported by microsoft and this is the cause of all the problem.

I do have the original machine, but even looking at the original machine I cannot discern what was removed to get this to stop refreshing...Can anyone guide me as to where I should look? The original tech is no longer employed with the company and I cannot reach him either...

Thanks in advance!

*Side note: I have checked to make sure that the File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks is there, I have also gone into My Computer\Tools\folder options\view unchecked automatically search for Network folders and printers. This is still not stopping ther refresh.*
