Print preview of outline view doesn't look the same as actual slid

I use version 2003.
I choose title and text layout. In the text placeholder, I set left tab at
1.5 (for names) and centre tab at 5 (for phone numbers). I can see that the
phone numbers are aligned properly under the centre tab when I use the normal
view. When I run the show, it looks fine too. When I go to print preview,
the phone numbers are aligned with slide, handout, or notes option. But I
have a problem with outline option. I have four phone numbers, three of
which starts right after the name and only one is centred even though it
looks fine on the slide.

Can someone tell me what is happening? How can I fix this using the print
preview screen (outline option) because this is the only place that I see the
misalignment?

Appreciate advice.

You should find that you can see this in the outline pane too.

The problem is that text size in the outline is fixed and does not
correspond to the text size on the slide. It can therefore have problems
leaving enough space to fit in centre tabbed text. You should see that the
non centred numbers are longer than the nombers which have been centred

Not normally a problem but you will find that left tabs are handled better
in outline

correspond to the text size on the slide.

You can change that if you like:

Use View, Toolbars to make sure the Outlining toolbar is visible.
Click the A/A button (Show Formatting) on the toolbar.
Voila, a (to my eye totally over the top but) formatted outline view.

Which also prints formatted.

Steve,

Thanks for your response. I did what you suggested.
Still not aligned on outline pane nor print preview (outline view). What
else can I try?

When I key in data, I use the "tab" key to move to the next tab position and
I press enter key to start a new line.

The outline view isn't really intended for this level of formatting. Basically,
it's intended to show you the text in your presentation rather than be a tool for
presenting a fully formatted text document.

You'll probably need to create the document in Word or similar if you need any
formatting beyond what you're already seeing.

I think I may have found the cause of the problem. I didn't move the
"hanging indent" to the left to meet the "first line indent" before I set the
tabs. Steve or anyone out there, do you do this step? Thanks.

My concern is someone wants to see a copy of the outline view on print and I
just don't feel right presenting something not aligned.

I don't, because I only rarely print the outline.
