Hi
I've used my Epson Stylus Photo 830 for more than 3 years and the print
preview page ALWAYS appeared after clicking the PRINT command allowing
a final check before confirming the command.
This was also useful in allowing selection of some, and not other,
pages to be printed.
However, after clean-reinstalling my OS (WinXP) yesterday, I just
cannot get the print preview to show up prior to printing. I have
searched high and low for unchecked check-boxes but have found none.
Anybody know what I might be overlooking?

TIA

By clean re-install do you mean that you formatted your hard drive.
If not I suggest you uninstall the printer, reboot the PC and reinstall the
printer, something may have got lost during the OS install.
If you did a format then it is still possible that a reinstall of the driver
will fix the problem. Some Epson printers have to have the Status Monitor
installed seperately from the printer driver, it is worth reinstalling the
status monitor if this printer has a seperate one.

The clean install of XP has allowed it to install MS$
generic drivers not the OEM Epson ones, which have
print preview. I have two printers shown for the one
printer, one the XP drivers one and one that says that
the drivers are Epson.
Can't get rid of the MS$ one, it's a known problem
according to the newsgroups.

In that case presumably a new install of the Epson drivers will work, and make
the new printer the default.
Is that correct?

Hi.

You must have had the Printer connected when you re-installed XP, otherwise
Windows would not have found the Printer, searched for, and used the generic
Drivers.

You should install the Epson Driver without the Printer being connected. At
one point in the process you will be instructed to connect and switch on
the Printer.

It is sound practice to disconnect all periphals when doing a clean install
of the OS, except perhaps the speakers.

Some people even remove any PCI cards, which they added over and above what
were in the machine originally.

How about something a bit more simple? Like he hasn't checked the print
preview box in the driver under Printing Preferences (ie default printer
settings).

Thanks to everybody for your replies and interest.

Ed was correct in that I had overlooked the check-box for Print Preview
in Properties>Printing Preferences>Main Tab>Print Options. So the
problem is now solved.

Just to comment on some points that were raised above:
1. A clean-install DOES involve reformatting of the HD
2. The printer driver I used WAS Epson (as was the Status Monitor) and
not the MS driver

Best wishes
Paul
