Print preview doesn't match what actually prints

I think I posted this question in a discussion groups area that is old. So I
will try again.

We are running access 2007 on a vista platform. 2 weeks ago we started
having problems printing reports. In preview mode, our report is correct.
When printing the report to a printer, half of the time it is incorrect;
missing headers, detail prints down to the bottom - missing footer . . .

Some of the printers we use have the duplex capability. BUT this problem
happens on printers without this capability as well.

We loaded the hotfix KB960307 a month ago. Does this have anything to do
with it? I doubt - because we uninstalled, rebooted and have the same
problem.

Any advice?

Thank you!!!!

yes - we have a default printer selected. Print preview is perfect. We
click the print button, choose the correct printer, print the report, and
half the time it is not what was in the preview. It does not make sense.

Any suggestions?

Yes we have re-loaded the printer drivers and rebooted.

What doesn't make sense is that everything has been printing fine. No
printer changes. The only change is the hotfix that we loaded. This is when
we started having problems.

UGH! :) ha

Yes we have this application on 7 different pc's with 3 printers available -
and the print preview in access doesn't match up all the time - all users
experience this problem. Wastes a lot of paper when reports only print
right half of the time - really frusterating.

Janis,

What are the margins on the report and what is the main printer you are
trying to print ot? Sometimes this COULD happen if the margin for the
report does not fall in between the margins for the printer.

The margins are normalized for all printers. We can pull up a report in
preview, it looks perfect, send it to a printer, it prints incorrectly with
detail printing all the way down to the bottom (page footer doesn't print
correctly), and without closing the print preview we can send the report to
the printer AGAIN and it will print correctly. Sometimes it works on the 1st
try, sometimes on the 2nd. Does not make sense.

Thank you for your time!!!!!!!!

Any other ideas? :)

Janis,

Are you normally closing the report prior to printing OR at the same time as
closing? You made the comment "...and without closing the print preview we
can send the report to the printer AGAIN and it will print correctly." It
could be that the report doesn't have a chance to finish spooling to the
printer before it closes? You ight want to consider a DoEvents if you are
printing and closing at the same time. This will pause the closing of the
report till it finishes spooling. If I have misunderstood... in the famous
words of Gilda Radner "NEVERMIND" and please clarify.

When printing the reports, we have the report on print preview, do a print,
wait for it to print correctly before closing the preview. When we see the
report has printed incorrectly, we do NOT close the preview, and we re-send
to the printer again, wait for it to print, and the 2nd time it prints it
matches the print preview.

We also have the same outcome when sending to a pdf writer. This is very
frusterating - these reports have been working for 2+ years and suddenly we
are having problems. We went to 2007 about 3 months ago. All reports were
working correctly until about a month ago. No printer changes, just normal
updates to office.
Anything else you might think of? Thank you so much for reading and
helping!!!!

Janis,

Yes this IS strange and I agree fustrating. Have you tried using a
DoEvents? This will pause the code long enough to complete it's print job.
Place it after the DoCmd.OpenReport... If THAT does not work then I'm going
to say you need have your network guys have a looksee because I'm starting
to think it is a network issue.

How about this thought - what is the difference between the On Format
property and the On Print property? Could 2007 be more sensitive to this
programming? We have some code on the On Format property (which I would
think runs on both the preview AND the print - but I could be wrong).

Could this be the issue?

Thank you so much for helping with this!!!!
