Print Off-line settings

When I try to print, I have to open my printer file and
un-check the "Print Off-line", otherwise my printer will
not perform. I have to do this every time I re-start my
computer.

Is there a way that I can make this a default or
permanent setting. I do not want the "Print Off-line"
setting to remain as the default, but do not know how to
change it.

I have a Xerox WorkCenter XK50CX.
I am running Microsoft XP Home on a Toshiba Sattelite
Laptop.
Xerox and Toshiba both assure me that it is a Microsoft
problem.

Have you checked the power settings on the USB port (or parallel port if
that's how it is connected, you never stated this info)? If the laptop is
placing this in a low power state and not signaling XP (or the USB stack is
not listening properly) when the power state changes.
