I am a new Access user. I occasionally need to import large data tables, with
80-90 fields. How can I come up with a list of all these fields without
having to just type the field names one by one? Thanks!

LeAnne-

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your answer. Could you please elaborate?
Thank you.

You don't mention the source of those other tables?

Are we talking about mdb files?

Usually, to import a table, you just go file->get external data.

It is not clear at what point you need this "field" list. You can certainly
use the database documenter to general a list of fields, but I still not
100% clear if you need the list of fields BEFORE...or AFTER you done the
import?

Also, do you need the list of fields to be printed on paper (use the
documenter), or are you trying to "match" up fields that might have
different names between two tables? (you can do this and if future tables
are different, the mapping will be remember...just use a append query..).

First, click the "Tool" command on the command menu, then point your
cursor to "Analyze" on the dropdown menu that appears, then click on
"Documenter." In the Documenter dialog box, check the table(s) for
which you wish to list fields, then click the "Options" button...Access
will give you a lot of confusing and possibly unnecessary info about
your table(s) if you just go straight to "OK" (e.g. Properties,
relationships, permissions, field names/datatypes/sizes/properties, etc.
etc.); you can customize the document here. When you're satisfied, click
"OK" and Access will create a Report of your table(s) specs, which you
can print directly or export to Word.
