Within the office these printers and my computer are on a
single subnet which has print servers. Printers are shared
on the print server, and we also use HP Printer Wizard to
print directly to HP Jet Direct printers. I just
reinstalled the office printer and two other office
printers using the HP Printer Wizard so I would be
familiar with the installation process and so I also know
that each was set up with the same process. I set up the
printers by specifying their IP addresses. The first three
octets are the same because everything is on the same
subnet, with the printers having final octets of 191 (an
HP8150 on which I used a Postscript driver), 192 (an
HP5si - the driver just says HP5si), and 193 (an HP8100 on
which I have used a PCL5e driver). Both the 8100 and the
8150 retain the print jobs in the queque after printing,
and print the jobs again on reboot. The HP5si flushes the
print jobs on printing, and prints normally in all other
ways. A number of other strange things are happening. When
I install a printer with HP printer wizard, the printer
does not appear in Settings-Printers and Faxes, but from
inside an application (i.e. MS Word) I can see the printer
and print to it. Also within Settings-Printers and Faxes
the 8150 and 8100 printers indicate an incorrect number
for the number of jobs that show in the queue when the
printer is opened with a left click of the mouse.
I have not used previously installed the printers using
the print server versions (running on a Windows 2000 print
server) but will try that tomorrow, and give details.

Is this a connection to a server or is the printer a local printer installed
on the laptop that utilizes a network or TCP/IP Port to print to the device?
If this is a connection, what operating system is installed on the server.
When you log onto your Thinkpad do you have local administrator rights or do
you have user rights?
If the printer is local, the jobs you see when opening the queue view should
be located in Windows\system32\spool\printers. If this is the HP driver, I
have heard that there is a language monitor installed with the driver that
does not always respond properly when set to Bidirectional enabled and does
not send a delete instructions to the spooler until it gets some response
form the printer (which does not always happen) and the jobs do not get
deleted. On Printer Properties / Ports / uncheck the Enabled bidirectional
box.
then restart the spooler service.
I am very interested if this solves the problem.

I rarely attach this to a printer at home, but this still
happens. Typically I will print several jobs during the
day, and when I look in the queue at the end of the day
the jobs are still there, even though they have printed. I
take the computer home but do not connect to a printer.
When I come in the next morning and reboot on the office
LAN all the print jobs from the previous day print again
on the same printer as yesterday. The printer I use at the
office is an HP8150.

what type of local printer is this? Do you have the
same
printer at home as
that in the office?

Using Windows XP on an IBM Thinkpad. After taking the
Thinkpad home, then bringing it back into the office and
logging on to the network, all the jobs that were printed
yesterday at the office are printed a second time.
When
I
look in the queue at the end of the day the jobs from that
day are still there. Any ideas?
