Print from OS9 to Win2K3 server with Mac print services installed

Hi!

I have a Windows 2003 Server and I've succesfully been able to share
files/folders to my Mac OS9 client machines. Unfortunately, I am not so
lucky with my printers. I can print to this printer from my Windows clients
without a problem.

Can anyone let me know how to share the printer on my Windows 2K3 machine so
my Macs can print to it? This is an Epson Photo 700.

Thanks!

Almost forgot... I can put this printer onto an HP Jetdirect ethernet print
server if this would be easier to access from OS9

I'm no expert on this, but you may be limited to being able to share
Postscript printers.

In the Mac OS, printing to a networked printer is not an overall
operating system service as it is in WIN-- instead, it's a function
that's built in (or mostly not) in the printer drivers themselves.

The Mac OS's Laserwriter 8 driver, for instance, is a postscript
printer driver that includes network functionality-- but most Mac
printer drivers don't include this ability-- making it impossible to
print to those printers even if connected to another networked Mac.

So unless the Mac printer driver for the Epson Photo 700 includes
network functionality, you're probably out of luck.

I've been seeing this, but in the Chooser, I do have both a serial connected
printer and a LAN connected printer showing as options to choose, but the
share never appears in the chooser. This printer does support LAN printing.

How do you mean? Do you mean the Mac driver supports LAN printing, or
on the Windows side?

In the Mac Chooser I see "AppleTalk" and when I select it I can see my
server in the second box, and mount the shared folders and access the files.

Also in the Chooser I see my Epson printer for a direct connection and
selecting this one I would be printing to a printer directly connected to
the computer.

Finally, in the Chooser I see another copy of my Epson printer, with a
network diagram behind it and this icon is used to print to the printer
through a network... but where the printer is expected to be is a mystery to
me. I'd expect to be able to select this icon and see the AppleTalk share
from my Win2K3 server.

I see something similar to the following image (Not from my machine)...

....but when I click the networked icon, I don't see any printers listed.

I assume that even though the drive is LAN ready, it won't work with the
Win2K3 Mac print services???
