Other than the Epson R300, what inkjet printer can print directly to
CD/DVD.

also, how do you know if your CD/DVD's are inkjet printable? The
CD/DVD's that i have say nothing about inkjet printable (I guess they
are not)

Several printers are set up to print on inkjet-printable CD/DVD media,
including the Epson 900 that I use. The media can be identified by
its matte-white, plain top surface in each case. For examples, check
eBay for "printable DVD" or "printable CD" for lots of ads. The
Memorex brand DVDs and CDs are consistently good printers, but
although good detail is possible, none of them have the contrast and
snap you might desire. If you want better quality printing, consider
a small thermal unit (like the Primera) designed for the purpose.

Sorry to say that the Canon i865 can print CD/DVD's as good as the Media
your printing from..
But you still need the printable disc's..

In the US, it seems to be illegal or some sort of patent violation, so we
get none.

I still can't find out who owns this patent, or what is stopping Canon from
giving us these kits.

It's not likely to be any sort of patent violation, since there are a
large number of printers of various types that do print on printable
media. I rather think it's just Epson bean-counters that view such a
feature as an unneccessary expense and perhaps not a feature that
would be well accepted in the US. It may also be that the CD feature
created servicing problems in the UK for the 2100, or it could be the
generally poor results obtained from most inkjet methods and the
relative scarcity of printable media.

I still can't find out who owns this patent, or what is stopping Canon from

All inkjet-printable media have either flat-white plain tops, or are
silver with a rough, plain printable surface. Be aware that some of
the printable media offered is intended for thermal or silkscreen
printing, and will not accept inkjet ink.

Where in the US can I get the Canon i865 with
print cd function. I have the Epson 900 and
with a little work can get some decent looking
cds. I hear the canon are better though and have
been trying to get one from japan but just shipping is $150

You can't buy it in the US. Maybe you can buy it in the UK but would again have
to pay shipping.

Better printing quality or better printer? better photo quality, I
don't think there will be much or any difference to say one gives better
photo quality than other (some may print little darker/lighter than
other, but this we can use program to set the output darker/lighter).

Epson do make all their direct to disc printers available in North
America (a retrofit kit is even available free for older 960s). Canon
does not. As to why, I think that's a question you might pose to the
copyright Gestapo (aka RIAA).
