Print cue out of order.....

Hi All.........

I have a Batch printing utility. It will print a pre-determined list of
Autocad drawings, in the order i decide. All was working well while I was
using Windows 2000, now, using Windows XP, the drawings come out of the
printer in a different order than what I put them in. This is unacceptable.
Is this something that can be fixed, or must I return to Windows 2000?

Any help would be appreciated...

Please click the Newsgroup button on the Outlook Express toolbar, type
windowsxp.print_fax in the search box, select it, click the "Go To" button
and try your question there.

No luck here.......no luck there.........

Any other suggestions?

Maybe the batch utility needs to be re-written for XP.

You might try the windowsxp.configuration_manage group. Because you are
using a batch file, I can't source it back to XP. If it had worked on XP
and then stopped, that might be a place to begin but since it has always
worked this way I con only surmise it's the batch file or, possibly, you
need updated XP drivers for your printer. Have you checked the printer
manufacturer's website for the latest drivers for your printer, is it even
XP compatible?

Actually, what I'm really using, is a script file that Autocad looks to for
commands , like a program. Autocad actually opens and follows the script
file to open specific drawings and print them, in order........but that
order, once fed to the XP spooler, gets changed, and that's my
problem..........if there is no way to force FIFO on the spooler, I must go
back to 2k............

This its AutoCAD behaving differntly ... checked with them?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

No Rob, I haven't checked with Autocad, because from the way it acts, I
don't really percieve it to be an Autocad problem.........Autocad seems to
be functinoing normally .........it just reads the "automatically produced"
sript file and executes........but once it sends the files to the XP spooler
to print out.........that is where the order changes, I believe, inside the
spooler, maybe based on relative file sizes, and not the same each
time......

BTY.........I'm not a regular reader/poster in this group, and I've seen at
least two posts in this thread censored out of this newsgroup.........for no
apparent reason........is this a regular occurance in this
group?..........if so, it seems a shame that someone feels that "they"
should decide what the rest of us should see.........especially when there
is no apparent offensive content in the posts that were censored.

Each application interacts with the system in its own peculiar way, all the
more so when you are using a script. The script wasn't designed
specifically for XP. It's not dissimilar from having a device driver that
worked fine in Windows 2000 and for the most part works fine in XP with the
exception of "some" functions.

You're using a script designed for a different OS and it appears the script
is the difference.

I don't recall seeing other posts in this thread besides the posts from Rob
and myself. It is not the policy of those responsible for the
msnews.microsoft.com server to censor posts. Posts are only removed for if
they are spam, are offensive or contain personal attacks.

If there were such posts it may have been a server issue. Also, some have
the ability to cancel their posts though since you say you saw two such
posts, I consider that unlikely.
