Hello,

we would like to print out our reports in Access 2000 in
the .pdf format from Adobe. This is because printing in
Snapshot format needs the viewer to have Snapshot viewer
installed and not many people have it (the program is too
big too).

Can someone tell me if this is possible - maybe with
Access 2002 or if it is possible to print a report in
another format where the viewing software is widely-used?

Thanks for any help.

you can publish the report to MS Word - I have a W icon
in the print preview bar from the report view
then you can print your MS Word file to a .pdf file

Too big? It's 53 KB and the installer is less than 2 MB. Both way smaller than the
Adobe alternative.

You need a PDF writer program. Most of these work as if it were another printer on
your system. There are free ones available but you need a more elaborate program if
you want to automate the process of creating the PDF and attaching it to an Email.

Hi Bobo,

you're right, the publish to Word feature has bugs in it.
As Rick suggested, you could print the report directly to
a pdf file using the Print menu, but you have to have
Acrobat Distiller or Writer installed.

We make routines to automate report creation as PDF files. We also make
a product to do "live" web reporting delivered as pdf files. I recommend
using either Adobe's PDF drivers or win2pdf if you just want to manually
print to pdf.

I also recommend using pdf over snaphot.

Hi Rick,

thanks for your help - can you please give me an name of
such a program that automates the process of creating the
PDF and attaching it to an Email; maybe that integrates it
in the "Sent to" option of Access as an extra position.

I currently have Acrobat Distiller installed on our
Windows 2000 terminal server but when I try to print the
report to Acrobat Distiller, it brings "Microsoft Access
couldn't print your object. Make sure taht the specified
printer is available."

Thanks in advance for help.

We have an example of creating a batch of pdf files and them emailing them
to
individual customers in our batch processing module. For example
sending customized reports to 1000 customers.

Note: It only works with Adobe PDFWriter (on the same cd as distiller)
and win2pdf. Also we use a third party email component in our example.

Hi Mark,

your help has been great up to now - thank you!

I have tried out win2pdf and it works fine but for a
terminal services license they want 500$, do you offer a
cheaper solution (i think I read something about 99$)?

Maybe you can also help me with another problem that
arised today:

I have read that when saving Access 2002 reports to XML,
OLE objects are not converted and therefore do not show in
the final output file. Is it possible to make OLE objects
appear in the final output file, after exporting to XML?

Many thanks for help.
