Hi All,

I want to restrict printing preferences option in
network printer properties for normal users in my AD
domain.

any thought/Ideas/suggestions.

Quick response is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mallika.

Hi Mallika,

Afaik, you can disable printer properties but not
the printing preferences option for guest/normal user.

I feel that, this requires support from printer driver
also.

Hi Shirnidhi,

Thanks for responding.

I am fine with disabling printer properties also. Can
you tell me the procedure to do that?

Thanks in advance,
Mallika.

Hi Mallika,

On A.D server you install the pritner driver & share it,
then install printer on client through Point and Print.

On client when you login as normal (domain)user
printer properties are disabled.

Hi Shrinidhi,

All Printer in my office are installed on Member server
(Windows 2000) and it is shared. Normal users were able to
change printer properties.

What is this "Install Printer on client through point and
print" ? is there any specific procedure to do this.

Thanks,
Mallika.

Hi Mallika,

First remove the drivers installed on the client. (clean
the m/c)

Now from client look for the shared printer on the A.D
server, double click the printer on A.D server, it will
download the printer driver to you local client and
install the printer also. From here domain users can't
change the printer properties or the port settings.

you can test this on one PC, before doing it on all m/c

Hth,

Hi Shrinidhi,

Thanks for telling me the procedure, but all my network
printer are installed on member server and shared. This
server is not AD server. Is it mandatory that printers
should be on AD servers only?

Thanks,
Mallika.
