Subject: Primax 4800 + Win XP ...

I've got an old Primax 4800 scanner that I've not used since I changed
computers last year. Before that it was connected to a PC running Windows
ME. My 'new' computer has Windoes XP and I now have a need for a scanner.
Can anyone in the group advise me on how I can use the old scanner on my
current system - drivers etc.
I would describe my computer knowledge as 'average/competent' so please keep
any advice fairly basic.

Thanks ...

Isn't google amazing ;-)

Er, yes. And your point? I've obviouly checked Google but the results did
not help.

J

My point is that what you desire is contained in the search I previously
supplied!
Whether your willing to read it is another issue.

Were it my own scanner and I had a desire to use it?
I would hone the 5,200+ returns looking for installation instructions.
As I have no inclination to use this scanner that part is up to you.
I did however browse a few of hones 5,200 page and found one page which the
google description is in English however the installation instructions are
in Polish.
I'm sure if you take the necessary time to go through the links you'll find
what your looking for.

Oh, wow, my apologies. I didn't expect this group to be so helpful to a
relative beginner. You were obviously born an expert an never had to learn
anything.

It hardly requires any type of expert to do google searches.
I'd never heard o Primax before your inquiry and my google search.

I'm fortuante, I suppose that I'm able to read, althought not Polish ;-))

As you can see?
There has been a great surge of replies to assist you with your inquriy ;-))
You think perhaps the only reason is that nobody in this NG has the scanner
or perhaps it requires an so-called expert to do google searches?

Or that others in this NG consider such inquires off-topic on old equipment?
Perhaps nobody was willing to dig through enough Google returns to realize a
Primax 4800 was designed with the technolgy for Pentium II computer?

In any event the information you desire is in the original reply link I
provided.

Or was it unreasonable to suppose that a members of a newsgroup called
co.periphs.scanners might [just might] have come across the problem
previouly and been willing to offer some helpful advice. Don't bother
replying, I'll just monitor the group for a couple of days to see if anyone
else offers any 'useful' advice.

Hi Jim,

Go to http://www.primax.nl/index.htm (and read the statement - Primax recommends
their NT drivers for XP, but doesn't guarantee any success...).
Click on "Support", find your scanner and download the NT drivers.
Good luck!

Many thanks for that. I now have a working scanner. Not brilliant results
.... but it's working.

The difference between an expert and the rest of us is the that the
expert makes the mistake and learns from it, rather than repeating the
mistake.
