Primary slave drive fails

Recently, while booting up Windows XP Pro, from time to time, I got a
warning message: Primary slave drive fails. The Primary channel has logical
disks: C and D of Maxtor 4D080H4 and the E of Maxtor 6Y080P0. I need to
re-boot it again to
boot up successfully. It appears to me that it is a signal to say the
harddisk is going to fail. Can someone advise me how to easily replace the
hard drive without reinstalling the OS and application programs.

In a nutshell:

Get a new drive and a copy of Ghost or similar software.

Install the new drive on the secondary channel, partition and format it,
and copy the failing drive's contents to it.

Move the new drive to the cable position currently occupied by the
failing drive.

Of course, the devil will be in the details.

Might also be a cabeling issue (too long cables or not firmly
seated connectors) or a bad PSU. My advice is to get better
disgnostics of the problem first. You should definitely look
at the SMART ststus and attributes of the disk.

As for the transfer, any reasonable disk imaging software should
do the job and there are numerous postings here that discuss them.

That is a bios message, nothing to do with XP.

Or something else not really cosher. There are 2 devices connected to a bus:
the host and the target, the problem can be in either or even the cable.
Or even the powersupply.
Can someone advise me how to easily replace the

Any reputable drivemaker has free software for that.

Not necessarily, it can be something as basic as a
bad cable, or a bad motherboard or power supply.

I've even seen that effect with an intermittent short to case.

Hard drives that behave like that may not actually fail too.

Just clone the old drive to the new one using one of the
cloners. I prefer True Image for that myself, but its not the
only one around and most of the hard drive manufacturers
provide one on their web site for that situation.
 
Manufactures give u shit, not usefull at all.
U have Romulus 540-4D old hdd it is developing Bad Sectors wach Your
data
