Primary master only detected as slave on IDE 1 port...

The slave drive is not detected at all...but is detected OK on another
computer. Both drives are ATA100 and have been working well for over a year
in an Abit KD7A/AthlonXP 2500 combo. The master drive is connected to the
master (black) end of an 80-connector flat cable. A new cable swap did not
help.

The BIOS just will not auto-detect the primary master....but keeps ID'ing it
as the primary slave.

I've re-set the CMOS. I've uninstalled and re-installed all of the IDE
controllers.

Some other possible salient facts: System errors 1000008e and 000000f4.

And...a "Windows Product Activation error" (and I quote) "An error occurred
while the wizard was checking the current Windows product license." error
code: 4 0x8007005

Yikes...I'm stumped!

Thanks to all for any help.

Some disks have two jumper settings:
- Master or single disk
- Master, slave present
Check your disk and play with the jumper settings.
