I keep getting pop-up messages that it is time to update VirusScan which
then take me to the sales page. I did finally notice that it included a
choice to extend it for 1 year but I could not find out how much that cost.
My son tells me that he finds it cheaper to just by a new program when it
comes on sale which he says is usually around Easter and Labor day.
Does anyone know the price of extending the program through the McAffee
website or the cheapest place to buy a new program?

I can't answer your question. But you may want to consider switching to a
good FREE AV program for home use.
AVG Anti-Virus. Grab it at www.grisoft.com You may have to search for it
under AVG version 6. Like most sites,
the FREE software is sometimes hard to find.

I just switched from Norton AV to the FREE AVG and I am very pleased. It is
a lot easier to set up and use.
And my computer runs a LOT faster now!! I didn't realise how much Norton
slowed down my computer!
I should have switched a long time ago.... Best of all AVG is FREE!

Before you install AVG make sure that you uninstall your old McAfee AV
software.

Give AVG a try!

Thanks, Rob. I'll have a look at it.

BUY McAfee? BAHAHAHA...that's funny. Sorry, but virus scanners aren't worth paying for, which is why I've used the command-line McAfee VirusScan for FREE since the early 1990s.

..... in July I bought a one-year online extension to McAfee's VirusScan 6.0
virus definitions for $14.95 - I had tried to do what your son suggested and
find a newer version on sale somewhere but could not find it here at the
local Staples. Usually at taxtime TurboTax is also bundled with McAfee &
sometimes that is good deal. Around this time of year both Norton & McAfee
comes out with newer versions so you can usually buy the older shrinkwrapped
version still in the store cheap. Personally I am leery of downloading a
complete version of any kind of antivirus; did that a few years ago & it
screwed up my machine - thats why I go with the store bought CD-ROM.

I took a look at the grisoft site and it said that it could not be used in
any networking situations. Does that mean my little home network also?
(Three computers.)
