I've got a folder on my desktop that I want to delete. It's empty. There is
NO program open that might, in any way, be accessing this folder. The folder
cannot be deleted. When I right-click and go to Properties, it shows the
Read-Only attribute is ON. I uncheck the box and hit OK. Still won't delete.
Go back to Properties ... Read-Only attribute is back on. Tried going
through the same process, first hitting APPLY and THEN OK. Same thing. From
the Command Prompt, I turned off the Read-Only attribute, but when I get
back into Windows, the folder's Properties show that Read-Only is back on,
again. Any clue what's causing this??

I'd be extremely grateful for anyone's opinion.......... thanks!

Read only is meaningless on a folder and explorer is NOT saying it is. It is saying indeterminate. You can also delete a read only folder.

Hi Bilglas,

You may want to try this. To delete files that the system says is in use or
locked, you can do the following;

1) Open DOS window
2) Open Task Manager
3) Close Explorer
4) In the DOS window, erase the file
4) In the Task Manager, restart Explorer
