preview/thumbnail of .ico file does not show in windows explorer

i believe the registry has been altered or something.
can anybody help me fix it?
coz right now the thumbnail image of icon files (*.ico)
won't show up in my windows explorer. i now need to
open another viewer program so i could see the image
for a particular icon.
