Preview problems with clips

I've imported a wmv movie in movie maker from a digital movie camera. When I
click a clip in the preview pane it doesn't start but if I put it in the
timeline then it works. Besides, the picture of the clip in the preview pane
is a frame of the previous clip, most of the time. I tried to import the
movie in a notebook and it works very well: thus, it is not a problem of the
movie.
I've noticed that in the notebook, among the filters shown in the menu
"option" there are two named "Windows Media Video Decoder", ver 8.0.0.4000"
(file: wmv8ds32.ax) and "Windows Media Video Decoder", ver 8.0.0.4487" (file:
wmvds32.ax). In the PC where I have the problem, these two filters are not
shown, even though the two files are present in the directory "system32".

I am experiencing what seems to be the same problem. Did you find any
solution to the problem? Any one else here who knows what might be causing
the problem?
 
At last, I've found A solution.
Just reduce your hardware accelleration - from left, just stop at the 3rd
step.

It's not problem of updated device drivers because mine is updated. Boh!

Yes it is a video driver issue...if reducing your
Graphics Hardware Acceleration cleared it up
....you need to update your video driver. Once
the driver is updated...return your acceleration
to Full.

Go to the support website of your video
adapter's mfg. and search for Vista
compatible drivers.

If you don't know the make and model of
your video adapter...check the documentation
that came with the computer.

Also you could try these steps...
Go to...Start / Search...type...
msinfo32 ...press enter.

On the System Information screen...choose...
Components / Display / Adapter Description

You should find the make and model of your
display adapter as well as the driver version.

If the driver on the support website is more
current than the one you are running...
download it and install it. Also you should find
installation instructions at the support site.

Sorry...but for some reason I thought
you were running Vista...the steps
would be basically the same with the
following changes:

Search for WinXP drivers instead of Vista.

Go to...Start / Run...instead of Start / Search.

I've already updated my driver: I've a nVidia GeForce 6200 and I've
downloaded the last driver available on the site
(162.18_forceware_winxp_international_whql.exe).
But the problem still remain.

Ok...I guess reducing acceleration is your only option.

Here's the driver I would have tried but it may not
be any better.

Hello John,

Thanks for your reply to Riano? He has had the problems I have with MM and
have had for the last 3 months or so, since Dell fitted a new drivwe to my
machine. I found some of the reply very interesting,in particular details on
how to find Video Driver Installed. In my case Radion X600 256 MB Hyper
memory.

Not being a computer buff I do not know how I can a) Adjust Graphic Hardware
Acceleration or b) Find and download any current update for my current driver
from Dell. Could you please help.

Any other advice would be most helpful
