Preventing WMM from controlling camera

I want to use a Sony TRV33E as an analogue (VCR) to digital converter (which you can). In this setup the video stream can be captured over the FireWire from the camera and the video control is via a VCR. While software such as Adobe Premiere is quite happy to capture a free flowing stream without any attempt at controlling the camera, the WMM is trying to start the camcorder's tape, thus shutting off the analogue signal conversion. WMM is actually capable of displaying the converted video from the FireWire, the problem however is how to stop it from interfering with the camcorder's controls - I cannot see anyway of making the camera to ignore such software requests. Any ideas

Microsoft issued a utility to help you do it... see the
link in the 'Limitations' section of the Problem Soving >
Checklist at www.papajohn.org

Those who use it report very positively about it.

If you have a tape in your camcorder, remove it. It shouldn't be controllable from MM2 without a tape in it.

Sorry Digipix, I've tried this tape-removing trick! However, MM2 is smart enough to notice this small detail and to complain about the missing tape.

Thanks PapaJohn for pointing out the limitations of the MM2. Pity that MM2 does not like overpass capture. The replacement MS utility only captures the video in the AVI format and without many other features this is rather crude. The Windows Media format is far more superior, so that if I had to use AVI, I'd rather stick with the Adobe Premiere which gives all the editing options MM2 does not have but which forces me to work with AVI format :(

I guess I'd have to wait for the MM3...

Thanks a lot -- Jacob
