When my computer is getting ready to load my settings(icons) the computer
automatically shut down and restarts about 3 to 4 times before it actually
loads my settings. What can I do to prevent that from happening everytime i
turn my computer on? I have windows xp profressional version 2002, service
pack 3. This problem started to occur after i recently installed a new
anti-virus (AVG). One of the errors mentioned updating BIOS, which i did one
time, however, the problem was happening before i did that. Sometimes when i
am shuting my computer down i c a notification saying ending program-Virus
definition missing. Also my computer is refurbish (OEM)

You getting what is called a blue screen of death. You need to provide a
copy of the Stop Error report, which will provide clues as to the nature
of the problem.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8
key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure.

what you might want
to try is to boot into
safe mode and
do a system restore
to a point before the
problem started.

Does it do this if you start in Safe Mode?

If not, try using "msconfig" to narrow down what might be causing it.
