Preventing conflicting appointments in Public Folder calendar

Is there a way to prevent double-booking of appointments in a shared calendar
within a public folder? In this case, the calendar is used for booking
boardrooms and cannot have duplicate appointments for the same room.

I am not sure if this is a function of the Outlook client or the Exchange
server. If it is server related, the version of Exchange server is 5.5.

Thanks
Jeff

In the public calendar folder options, select the planner options and check
the box to not allow conflicting items.

Thanks for the reply Millie. I am not clear on the folder options you are
referring to. I have looked at the properties for the Public folder from
within the Outlook 2003 client and cannot find anything close to an option to
not allow conflicting items. Am I looking in the right place or am I missing
something. Keep in mind this resides on an Exchange 5.5 public folder. Can
you provide more details?

Thanks
Jeff

I have what I perceive to be exactly the same problem. Rather than using
invites, I have users going into the shared public calendar and creating
appointments there directly. This is my prefered method, but it obviously
bypasses the validation one would get when using the invites system.

I had a look for the option to conflict check, but could not find anything
that came close (bar those for automatically rejecting conflicting invites).

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

In my case, the users are for the most part, not using invites but are going
into the shared calendar to create the appointments and are able to create
duplicates. As these are for meeting room bookings, they are in some cases
working against each other and scambliing at the last minute to find meeting
space. Perhaps I am being a little mislead on the amount of people using the
invite method cause why would you book a boardroom if you were able to see it
was already booked? This being the case, is there a way to force the calendar
to reject ALL invites automaticly and force the users to connect to the
calendar to create the appointment?

I am dealing with a similar situation.
In my work Outlook there are Public Calendars in the public folders list.
When I enter an event into one of these calendars I do not get a message
stating there is a conflicting event or adjacent event already enter on the
calendar. My own calendar in Outlook does show conflicts when events are
enter at the same time or an adjacent time to an event. Is there a way to
have the conflict or adjacent message appear on these public calendars in the
public folders? I have searched the knowledge base and was unsuccessful
finding any answers. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Article shows that Public folders Calendars do not show Free/Busy and this
is by design. Does this mean we are out of luck and there is no workaround
to this MS Outlook design flaw?

You need to be using mailbox Calendar folders, not public folders, to get all that functionality
