Is there a way I can prevent an application from making its own
custom sound? I do not want to lose any other sounds on my PC.

For example, a utility called CHARM which I got from
http://www.broccolisoftware.com/products/zones/Charm/Home.asp
has its own sounds. I find them annoying.

How do I prevent Charm from playing its sounds yet and at the same
time I still want to be able to hear the usual XP sounds.

Alex,

Open 'Charm', find 'Options' or 'Preferences' (under 'Tools' maybe?). There
must be an option there somewhere.
Also, If you're worried about losing your sound scheme:
* click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices'
* click 'Sound' tab, under 'Program events', scroll down to any item that
shows a black speaker icon (example: 'Critical Battery Alarm' should have a
black speaker icon to the left of this item, if it doesn't have a speaker
icon then the sound is disabled for that item).
Use the menu arrow to enable, disable or change the sound. After all your
sounds are set, click 'Save as' and name your Sound Scheme.
Your sounds are located at location C:\WINDOWS\Media
