How can I prevent Outlook to touch all the .pst files that I use?
After all, most of the .pst files that I have open are not changed, so
there seems to be no need to change their modification time! Still
Outlook does this, a very annoying habit, causing my backup software
to backup those large files every time!

Thanks, Michiel

As far as I know, Outlook opening the file, changes it in small ways. Don't
think you can change that since making a PST read-only makes it unopenable.

If you're not changing PSTs that are not your delivery location, remove them
from your mail profile unless you need to access them. Outlook then won't
open them and theirs dates won't change.

As far as I know, if Outlook touches it the file changes. What you
might be better off doing is using the Personal Folders Backup Add-In
for Office and backing up your pst's from there, using it to push the
backups to your external drive, or other location.

Why not just copy the .pst file and paste it where you want to keep it
for a back up?
