Prevent storing of LAN passwords

I'm looking for a registry-key that will prevent users from permanently
storing passwords to network-shares in their profiles. It must still be
possible to store email and dial-up passwords.

Basically, I'm concerned about the risk of security being compromised if a
roaming user does this to server-shares, and then the laptop gets
misappropriated.

This feature only available to XP PRO
Removing your saved passwords from your computer is a very good idea.
because doing so will protect your accounts and also increase your accounts
privacy. Removing the passwords in windows xp is tricky, because there is no
easy way to access a list of all the accounts that have passwords stored for
them within Control Panel or any other user interface element. Fortunately
there is a "HACK" that will do just that.

Hidden away in keymgr.dll system flie is and interface for viewing stored
user names and passwords. To use this inteface follow these steps.

1) click start, select Run
2) Type in rundll32.exe keymgr.dll,KRShowKeyMgr.
3) The stored windows User Names and Passwords will load, Showing you a list
of all the accounts saved on your computer
4) To remove a saved password, select the account on the list and select
remove
5) click ok on the confirm screen and the account will be removed from the
list, erasing the stored password
6) repeat the previous steps for any other accounts that you want to remove
7) When finished just click close
NOte*** you can also add user names and passwords by selecting ADD

I have not tried this myself but take a look at the security option in local
or domain/OU level security policy under local policies/security options for
network access: do not allow storage of credentials or .Net passports for
network authentication. Of course be sure to test it out first on a test
computer to make sure it does not interfere with email and dial up passwords
that you want to keep. --- Steve

boxes out there, ppl seem to forget their passwords. at least this will
allow deletion of them or changing if the admin account can be accessed, any
hacks to clear the admin pw if it has been forgotten?
