Does anyone know how to prevent the Outlook Express shortcut from showing up
in the Start Menu on a Windows XP Professional workstation?

Whenever a new user logs onto a Windows XP workstation either utilizing the
Default Profile or a Mandatory Profile on our server, the Outlook Express
shortcut in the Start Menu appears. It's very frustrating since we cannot
determine where it's coming from. There is a desktop.ini file in the Start
Menu which looks like it may be calling the shortcut, but if we edit or
remove the file, the shortcut still appears. Of course, we also edited the
All Users profile, but no luck. If someone can shed some light on this, that
would be great. Thanks!

Have you already tried to block access to OE via the Control Panel >
Add and remove Programs > Set Program Access and Defaults?
"How to Create a Custom Default User Profile"

Hi Steve,

If you rightclick the START button then select "Properties" then select the
"Start Menu" tab at the top of the properties pane, then click the
"Customise" button you are given the choice to uncheck the "Show on Start
Menu" boxes which should do what you are trying to achieve.
