Prevent Meeting from being automatically added when receiving mail

Hello,

I've been hunting through the outlook options (quite frustratingly so) for a
while now, but can't find what I'm looking for. I receive quite a lot of
meeting requests. For whatever reason, they automatically end up in my
'upcoming appointments' bar. Any easy way to prevent them from doing that?

thanks

Being the first to reply to my post, I probably should amend, that I'm
working with outlook 2007, and for that case the annoying appointment
requests come from a IMAP account ...

Thank you for your answer. The thing is, for IMAP, all outlook filters will
first apply to a mail, as I'm reading it. So you are suggesting to set up a
filter, on the IMAP inbox, that moves the message to another folder. Apart
from the awkwardness (as then some mails will disappear when I select them)
will that really remove them from the calendar then?

thank you again

you can't do it with filters. You need to either move it from the calendar
after its added to the calendar or open the meeting request and use move to
folder command.

You could also use a rule to move all incoming appointment or meeting
requests to a separate folder and them accept only those events you wish to
appear in the To Do.

Note that this may not help - outlook may still autoprocess the meeting as
tentative and put it on the calendar. I haven't tested it with imap, but
moving messages on exchange still adds the tentative appointment to the
calendar.

Thank you both, I tried the Rules, with no avail, so i guess for now I'm
back to manually deleting those tentative events. In the long run VSTO might
be more helpful. As all appointment or meeting request follow certain
patterns, it might be possible to screen all appointments in the near future
for those patterns and programmatically remove them.

Maybe in the future, there could be another option, 'do not add meeting
requests automatically' it could be right next to automatically accept
meeting requests.

thank you

There is a checkbox in the tracking options in outlook 2003 client:

tools - options- email options - tracking options

"Process request and responses on arrival"

Unchecking this box might solve your problem.
