Prevent from downloading New Windows Update

Trying to download Windows Update received following error
message: "New Windows Update Software Required." When I
click Update Now, it puts me back to the same error
message screen. How do I get pass this error message and
begin the update. What is the required?

i have the same issue with a win2k pc. I found an adware. bug and a Gaobot worm on the machine
Please help....I need the current security patches
