Go to Start > Run and type msconfig

In there you can select which programs will load on windows startup in
the "Startup" tab. Be sure you know what you're unchecking some of
those have to start for Windows to function properly.

There are a number of places that programs that automatically start can be
put aside from the Startup folder. The most common places are in the
Registry, most often under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run or the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

You should probably check the programs you propose to disable at a site like
http://www.castlecops.com/StartupList.html or http://www.processlibrary.com/
to be sure you're not deleting something important. You may also want to
consider a third-party startup tool (Google should find several) if editing
the Registry makes you nervous.
