There are a number of places that programs that automatically start can be
put aside from the Startup folder. The most common places are in the
Registry, most often under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run or the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.
You should probably check the programs you propose to disable at a site like
http://www.castlecops.com/StartupList.html or
http://www.processlibrary.com/
to be sure you're not deleting something important. You may also want to
consider a third-party startup tool (Google should find several) if editing
the Registry makes you nervous.
