hi, I have to leave the house for a couple of days and would like to leave
my pc so people cannot look into it. what is the simplest and least
hazardest way to do that please? thanks

Do what I used to do years ago when I left for a few days. Unplug the power
connector(s) to the Hard Drive(s). Put the case back on and leave a note on
the monitor that the computer is not working. Worked well enough for 6
months that my cousin though I had the most broken down computer ever made.
When he finally moved out, I didn't have to worry again. If you have a
laptop, take it with you or remove the HD

I did it because I didn't want him on the internet endangering my computer
while I was visiting an old girlfriend friend for the weekends.

If you password the BIOS, as most have ability to accept a password,
they won't be able to get past your password unless they open the
computer case.

If they really want to get past anything you do, they can open the case,
remove the drive, put it in another machine, and get access to anything
you have on the drive.

If you want them to be completely unable to access the PC, put it in a
lockbox.

Hi jw :-)

It would really help us to know what version of Windows you are using.

How to set a CMOS (power-on) password. This requires a password before
Windows will load.

CMOS Passwords

A word of caution: Be sure that you write down the password and keep it in
two places. If you forget your password you will be locked out of your
system, and require a special bypass in order to regain access to your
computer.

Hope this helps.

I like that one.

wanted the very simplest of methods. since there is not going to be any
sophisticated enquirers.
