I would like fw to prevent downloads from my teenage grandson when he uses
my computer. I allow him web access, but would like to prevent him from
downloading and installing software he finds on the net. Since I download
and install a lot of software, I would prefer that it be easily toggled,
with password security. Thanks!

If you run Windows NT/2000/XP, then create account that doesn't have
privileges for installation of software (i.e. not Administrator).

Sorry, my OS is W98.

Assuming you have Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher, you can disable file
downloads entirely, under "Tools -> Options -> Security -> Custom Level
-> Downloads". This will affect all users on your computer, I only know
of a way to make this per-user for Windows 2000 and above.

Create a separate user account for him, that's what they're for. Low
privilege user accounts under Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, and Windows XP
are a reliable way to prevent new system-wide software installations.

It won't stop him downloading and running standalone executable apps.

For the record: "each 4th Letter will be replaced by a dot", that's in the
log-file.
I can imagine people can live with that, but it's crippleware.
