Prevent Auto Modem Connection

I'm reconfiguring a Win2K system from scratch. I have configured the
modem and it connects fine. However the modem is disconnected
and I have Mozilla mail program running, the dialup activates when
Mozilla goes to check for mail.

How can I supress the dialup if it's not already active?

Tell Mozilla not to do that (or give it a Link that will
not work.)

Generally if such programs don't have an option for
disabling auto-dial, but you tell such programs that
they are LAN connected.

Usually this choice isn't obvious to those who know
they have no LAN -- but what we are really saying
is "don't make any connections because if we are
connected I WILL DO IT."
