Is it possible to prevent a cab file from being auto-deleted after it
is clicked and installed? If so, how? The MS FAQ states that making
it read-only should prevent this but I have done that and it still is
removed after it is run.

Thanks.

Yes, I can confirm making a cab file read only should prevent it from being
deleted after it is run.
What device are you attempting to confirm this on?
Have you verified it is indeed read only? Maybe something is effecting this
state?
Try copying the file off the device to the desktop and confirm it there.

Thanks,

Well - it is definitely read-only on the device yet it is still being
deleted. This is occurring in the Flash File Folder on an Intermec
700 series.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks.

I always have succes by marking the CAB ReadOnly ON the desktop before
I copy it down to the device (or Flash).

same here... I can confirm that making the file read-only will prevent it
from being deleted

Jim,

I am in the same position as you were (are?). I tried everything I could
imagine, but when I write a cab in the flash memory, it is deleted
afterwards.

Trying the same in other directories works as expected.

I also checked the read-only flag with a third party explorer. The
read-only attribute is lost as soon as you write a file in flash store.
Even if I turn manually read-only on, the cab disappears.

Have you found any solution to this?

The following always works for me:-
Locate the cab files on the desktop
Right click and select properties
Check the Read-Only box
Click Ok
Right click the file, select Copy

Using ActiveSync click explore
Right click the folder and select Paste
File is transferred with Readonly flag intact and installing doesn't delete
the file

You can also transfer the file via an SD card reader.
Make sure you mark it as Read-Only before copying it to the device.

Peter, this only happens on Intermec's 700 Flash File Store.

Using the Main memory, the behaviour is as you described, but not in
Flash.

I wish you had a 700 to see it for yourself. I think I will contact
Intermec for this.

Thanks for your time
